About Openear Club

What this site is

Openear Club ranks open-ear earbuds, bone conduction headphones and workout earbuds on the two things that decide whether you keep wearing them: the fit system that holds them on (ear-hook, clip-on, wingtip or neckband) and the IP rating that survives a soaked hour. Around those, it scores awareness, sound and leakage, calls and wind, battery and value on a published rubric. As of launch it covers 37 products, 32 of them open-ear designs, across 59 pages: 27 ranked roundups plus head-to-heads, single reviews and guides on IP ratings, fit and hearing safety.

It is written for the problem-solver, not the spec-sheet researcher. Pages open with the failure you have (falls out, dies from sweat, can't hear the car) and get to the fix. Who runs it

Mike M., the hands-on owner behind Iron Mako Media, an independent publisher. Mike writes every page and is the single byline on the site. Iron Mako Media is the publisher and the entity behind the affiliate accounts; more about it is on its own site.

How the rankings are built

From makers' published specifications and independent reviews we cite by name. Every spec on a product card (IP rating, weight, battery, charging, Bluetooth, mics, controls, codecs) links to the maker's own page it was read from, with the date. Where a maker's page can't be read (Nothing's is script-rendered; Sony's blocks fetches) we cite a named review and say so. Where a maker contradicts itself (Soundcore lists the Sport X20 as IPX7 and IP68 on one page) we print both. Where a figure isn't published, the table shows a dash rather than a guess. What we don't claim

• We don't run a testing lab and we don't claim to have worn every pair. Every page carries the label “spec-checked, not worn by us.”
• We don't print Amazon prices. They change daily; every button says “Check price on Amazon” until a live, dated feed supplies a number.
• We don't quote Amazon star ratings or review counts.
• We don't make medical claims. The hearing-safety pages cite NIDCD and WHO and stop where those sources stop.
• We don't list credentials, awards or testimonials, because there aren't any to list.

How the site is funded
