The verdict
What's identical
The retention system (ear-hook), the earbud IP rating (IP55) and the fact that none of the cases is immersion rated (the Air 2's is IP54; the 2 and Pro cases are listed as not waterproof). All three support multipoint. For the two things this site ranks first, fit and sweat, the three hooks are the same product. Everything below is about the other 55% of the rubric.
1. Weight on the ear
7.2 g (Air 2), 9.4 g (OpenFit 2), 12.3 g (Pro). A hook's weight sits at the pod, in front of the canal, and levers on the top of the ear. The 3 g between the 2 and the Pro is a third more. If a previous hook left the top of your ear sore, that's the number to buy by, and it points away from the Pro. The Pro's case is 99.3 g, nearly double the OpenFit 2's 53 g.
2. Mics and the wind rating
OpenFit 2 and Air 2: dual AI noise-canceling mics. Pro: triple AI noise-canceling mics with a wind rating, “Wind-Resistant (Up to 25 km/h)” in Shokz's table. Shokz publishes that rating on only three products (the Pro, the OpenRun Pro 2 and the OpenRun Air 2). If you take calls while cycling or running into a breeze, it's the single strongest reason to buy the Pro.
3. Noise reduction, and what it costs
The Pro has an open-ear noise-reduction mode: processing that reduces ambient sound at the ear without sealing the canal. Shokz's battery figures tell you the price: 12 hours (50 with case) with reduction off, 6 hours (24 with case) with it on. That is not a footnote. A mode that halves battery is a mode you'll turn on for the treadmill row and off for everything else. If your gym is quiet, it's money you won't use.
4. Battery and charging
Per charge: 11 hours (2), 12 or 6 (Pro), 8 (Air 2). Quick charge: 10 minutes for 2 hours (2), 4 hours (Pro), 3 hours (Air 2). The Pro charges wirelessly or by USB-C; the 2 is USB-C only (the 2+ adds wireless); the Air 2 is USB-C. On a plain-music day the Pro's extra hour is real but small; its 10-minute-for-4-hours quick charge is the more useful number.
5. Controls
OpenFit 2: physical button plus touch. Pro: physical buttons. Air 2: pressure-sensitive buttons. None of the three is touch-only, which is one reason all three sit near the top of our open-ear ranking. With sweaty fingers the difference among them is small.
